Obama And McCain Neck And Neck?
A new L.A. Times/Bloomberg poll shows Obama and McCain are in a statistical tie in their race for the White House. According to the survey, McCain is succeeding in rallying dispirited Republicans, while Obama has made little progress building new support. How are Democrats and Republicans reacting to these findings? Are Democrats getting nervous? Republicans feeling more secure? Guest host David Lazarus talks with Michael Finnegan, Political Reporter for the Los Angeles Times, about the numbers and then takes listener calls.
Who Uses California's Emergency Rooms?
A surprising new report from the Public Policy Institute of California sheds light on who's using the State's emergency rooms, and why. AirTalk guest host David Lazarus talks with a panel of experts including Shannon McConville, coauthor of the report, Dr. Brian Johnston, Medical Director for White Memorial Hospital in Boyle Heights, and Carol Meyer, Director of Governmental Relations for the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services about trends in ER use in California.
The Language Of Presidential Politics
The ability of a presidential candidate to capture and hold an audience with an opening sound bite, to hold their attention with brief policy details and then close with an applause line is critical in a presidential campaign. So says pollster and political consultant Frank Luntz who joins David Lazarus to examine the rhetorical high and lows of this election cycle. Luntz's book is "Words That Work: It's Not What You Say, It's What People Hear."
Chazz Palminteri
Chazz Palminteri first performed his semi-autobiographical, one-man play, "A Bronx Tale," in small L.A. theaters in 1989. After an Off-Broadway run in NY, he made sure he was involved in the 1993 film version, which was directed by Robert de Niro. Last fall, nearly two decades after he wrote it, Palminteri played all 18 roles himself on Broadway. And next month, he brings the play back to Los Angeles, this time at the Wadsworth Theatre from September 9-21.. David talks with Palminteri about his career and the role A Bronx Tale has played in it.
