Is Preemptive Legal Action Legal?

AirTalk for August 15, 2007

Self-proclaimed pedophile Jack McClellan has yet to be accused of an act of pedophilia, yet he's been placed under a restraining order, and has now been arrested twice for violating it. Does the U.S. constitution allow for preemptive legal action? Larry Mantle talks with Loyola Law School Professor Laurie Levenson and Richard Patterson, one of the attorneys who sought the restraining order on McClellan.

Freeways Aren't Free: Federal Grants given for Congestion Pricing Projects

AirTalk for August 15, 2007

Inspired by a similar program in London, New York has received 354 million dollars in federal funds for a City program that would charge drivers a fee for entering congested areas. Four other cities, including San Francisco, received smaller grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation's "Urban Partnership Program." The grants can also be used for transit and telecommuting projects, but every winning proposal included some form of congestion pricing--a big push of the federal program. Would increased use of toll roads and charging to drive in certain areas work in Southern California? Larry talks to transportation engineer Hamid Bahadori of the Auto Club of Southern California and former NYC councilman Walter McCaffrey about this new Federal push to fix our traffic woes.

Larry Mantle talks with historian and writer Raymond Ibrahim about his new book The Al Qaeda Reader (Doubleday/Broadway), in which he edited and translated key writings by Al Qaeda's top leaders including Osama Bin Laden and Aymin al-Zawahiri. These writings have never before been translated into English. Ibrahim believes the writings provide key insight into the motivations and ideologies of Al Qaeda and its leaders.
