Bush Calls on Congress to Pass Flextime Legislation

AirTalk for August 9, 2004

On Thursday, President Bush asked Congress to pass flextime legislation that would make it easier for employers to give workers time off, compensatory time, instead of paying them overtime. Bush made a similar proposal last year, but Congress did not pass legislation then. Bush contends that flextime would give employees more choices, but critics say this is a way for business to avoid paying workers their due overtime. Host Larry Mantle takes your calls on the issue. Do you think that flextime would give you more options vis a vis the way you arrange your work day? Maybe your company already gives comp time instead of overtime. Do you care? Joining Larry is Tim Adams, Director of Policy for the Bush-Cheney campaign, and Chris Cameron, Associate Dean and Professor of Law at Southwestern Law School.
