Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is proposing to close the $15.2 billion budget gap with a temporary one-cent sales tax in exchange for automatic budget caps and increased executive power to curb future deficit spending. Los Angeles County residents may also be facing a half-cent on the dollar sales tax hike to pay for transit projects. If both are passed, LA County's sales tax would be a whopping 9.75%.
