Sweeping Health Care Legislation Approved by the House

AirTalk for August 3, 2007

On Wednesday, the House approved legislation that would boost tobacco taxes to pay for increases in government health benefits for children while cutting Medicare payments to private insurance companies. House Democrats backed the bill which would expand the federally funded health insurance program for children from poor families and increase benefits for low-income seniors while rolling back scheduled cuts in Medicare fees for doctors. Republicans opposed the legislation saying it represents a massive expansion of government controlled health care and runs the risk of inadvertently insuring the children of illegal immigrants. Larry discusses the legislation with Democratic Congressman Xavier Becerra and Republican Congressman John Campbell.
