President Unveils New Energy Ideas

President Bush, under political pressure to address rising gas prices, unveiled a plan on Wednesday to get at “the root causes” of the high cost of energy. In his second energy speech of the week, Bush proposed the construction of oil refineries on closed military bases and to speed up construction of nuclear power plants, he called on Congress to provide the nuclear industry with “risk insurance.” Other proposals included giving final say to federal regulators over the location of liquefied natural gas plants and tax credits for energy-efficient vehicles. Larry Mantle talks with George Radanovich, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 19th district, Severin Borenstein, Director of the University of California Energy Institute and Henry Waxman , U.S Congressman form CA’s 30th District about the Bush energy proposals and the energy bills that Congress is currently debating.
