North Korea Has Nukes
North Korea officials told the United States it has nuclear weapons during though talks that marked the two countries' first diplomatic encounter in six months. The North Koreans also said they have begun reprocessing spent nuclear fuel, which could possibly yield bomb-making material. Larry Mantle will talk with Phillip Saunders, Director of the East Asia Non-proliferation Program at the Monterrey Institute's Center for Non-proliferation Studies, and Victor Cha, Professor of Government, Georgetown University, and the co-author with David Kang of Nuclear North Korea (Columbia University Press), about how the State Department should respond to these latest claims and how the Bush Administration is going to resolve the tension between North Korea and the United States.
The Arboretum Gets A Makeover
The Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Gardens sits on 127 acres of historically significant land in the San Gabriel Valley, once owned by the legendary entrepreneur E.J. "Lucky" Baldwin. For decades it has offered classes, lectures and exhibitions on botany and horticulture, and it has provided a vast, gorgeous setting for Southern Californians to observe rare plants and trees. Well, the Arboretum is getting a makeover. In addition to receiving a new name, it has a new mission, an ambitious new blueprint, and a plan to become a world-class destination for plant lovers everywhere. Larry Mantle talks with Joan Defato, Head Librarian for the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Gardens, Peter Atkins, President and CEO of the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Gardens, and Nancy Goslee Power, of Nancy Goslee Power and Associates. She is the designer of the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Gardens new concept and long-range plan about the Arboretum's past and its future.
