San Diego Mayor Dick Murphy Resigns
San Diego Mayor Dick Murphy announced his resignation today, saying that he will step down on July 15th. Murphy resigned under criticism amid a widening federal investigation into the handling of the city's deficit-riddled pension fund. A special election will be held on November 8th to select his replacement. Guest host Patt Morrison talks with Tony Perry, San Diego Bureau Chief for the Los Angeles Times, and San Diego Councilman Scott Peters.
Cold Remedies Moved To Pharmacies
Manufacturers of the illicit drug methamphetamine use common over-the-counter allergy and cold remedies as part of the manufacturing process. Target has announced it will pull medicines that contain pseudoephedrine, the ingredient that the drug dealers need, from store shelves, instead forcing consumers to buy the remedies from the pharmacy, where the sales can be monitored. There is also pending legislation from the Feds and State to mandate such measures. Guest host Patt Morrison talks to Lena Michaud, spokeswoman for Target, Rob Eder, executive editor of Drug Store News in New York, and Bart Broome, Legislative Assistant to Assemblyman Paul Koretz.
