UN Role in Reconstructing Iraq
The UN makes and keeps the peace in war zones around the world. It has also overseen past reconstruction efforts. What should the UN role be in post-war Iraq? The US went to war in Iraq without UN Security Council approval, and now it wants help with reconstruction. Is reconstruction part of the UN mission? How about part of the World Bank's mission? Joining host Larry Mantle to talk about what the UN has done in the past and what it could do in post-war Iraq is Professor Michael Intriligator, Professor of economics, political science, and policy studies at UCLA.
The Black Dahlia
Larry Mantle talks with former L.A.P.D. homicide detective Steve Hodel about his new book, Black Dahlia Avenger: The True Story (Arcade). In it, Hodel asserts that his father, Dr. George Hill Hodel, a prominent L.A. physician, was the Black Dahlia murderer. Steve Lopez, columnist for the Los Angeles Times also joins the discussion to provide some additional information that he came across while examining the Black Dahlia grand jury file in the office of L.A. District Attorney Steve Cooley.
Pop Culture and Race in America
Larry Mantle talks with author Leon Wynter about his new book, American Skin: Pop Culture, Big Business and the End of White America (Crown). In it, Wynter examines issues of pop-culture and race and how the two intersect to define race in America.
