Crowd Psychology

AirTalk for April 14, 2003

Iraqis are looting in Baghdad, carting off everything from air conditioners to mattresses, capturing the images on film. These are the same people who would never have dared to do such a thing just a few weeks ago. Obviously, the oppressive regime has fallen, but is there more at work here? What makes a crowd run wild? Why do people lose control and go on the rampage? Joining host Larry Mantle to talk about crowd psychology is Stuart Fischoff, Professor of Media Psychology and Director of the Media Psychology Lab at Cal State, LA.
