FDA Regulation of Tobacco

AirTalk for April 3, 2009

In a move that would grant mean more government control over the tobacco industry, the House Thursday voted 298 to 112 to give the Food and Drug Administration greater power to regulate harmful chemicals in tobacco products. A bill like this has been in the works since 2000, when the Supreme Court ruled that the FDA did not have the authority to regulate tobacco products. Those who oppose the bill say that an FDA stamp of approval would imply that cigarettes are safe. Experts believe the Senate vote will be much closer.

He also tells readers about the personality of founder Jimmy Wales and how Wikipedia has become a powerful teaching tool.
