ABC suspends Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show indefinitely. How do First Amendment rights play in?
ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show indefinitely beginning Wednesday after comments that he made about Charlie Kirk’s killing led a group of ABC-affiliated stations to say it would not air the show and provoked some ominous comments from a top federal regulator. The veteran late-night comic made several remarks about the reaction to the conservative activist’s assassination last week on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Monday and Tuesday nights, including that “many in MAGA land are working very hard to capitalize on the murder of Charlie Kirk.” Some have called the suspension an attack on free speech and the First Amendment, but are there any actual First Amendment issues here? If so, what are they? Joining us this morning for the conversation is Eugene Volokh, Thomas M. Siebel Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford, and Professor of Law Emeritus at UCLA School of Law.

A legislative roundup: Checking on all the bills that are moving across the Governor's desk
It’s that time of the year again folks, when hundreds of bills move across Governor Newsom’s desk to meet their fate. Some will receive his signature and become the law of the land, others will be vetoed and never see the light of day again, and some are bound to be kicked down the legislative road to next year. One of the bills in waiting would extend a key climate program to 2045. Another would create a Western energy market for states to buy and sell excess energy generation. Perhaps the most controversial is a housing bill that would allow for more housing near transit stations; subways, light rail, major trains and the like. Of course, there’s also AI regulation bills in the mix. Joining us for a round-up of all the laws-to-be is Ben Christopher, housing reporter for CalMatters, Alejandro Lazo, climate reporter for CalMatters, and Khari Johnson, technology reporter for CalMatters.

But what do we know about the actual health benefits of these supplements? And are there any risks pet owners should be aware of? Joining us to discuss is culture writer and co-host of the ICYMI podcast for Slate, Kate Lindsay. Also with us is Dr. John Tegzes, dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine and professor of Health Sciences at Western University. We also want to hear from you!
