2025 Emmys: ‘The Pitt’ and ‘The Studio’ win top awards

“The Studio” won best comedy series at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night, breaking an Emmys record, as “Adolescence” and “The Pitt” took the night’s other top prizes. But the night’s most popular winner was likely Stephen Colbert. He received a prolonged and rousing standing ovation for his talk series win, which comes after CBS announced it is canceling “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” Joining us this morning on AirTalk for a full recap is Angelique Jackson, senior entertainment editor at Variety and Antonia Cereijido, host of LAist podcast Imperfect Podcast, who’s also been following Emmy coverage.

Where does California stand with wind and wave renewable energy?

If California is to achieve its ambitious goal of getting to 100% clean energy by 2045, it will need to think outside the box. The state has made substantial progress with wind energy, but that progress may be halted as President Trump attempts to freeze the development of offshore wind. So-called “wave” energy is much earlier in its development in California, but there are promising pilots. Eco Wave Power has launched the first onshore wave energy site at the Port of Los Angeles. But will it be enough to move the needle on the state's energy goals? Joining us this morning on AirTalk to discuss the state of wind and waves as renewable energy resources are Daniel Kammen, professor of energy and director of the Renewable and Appropriate Energy Laboratory at UC Berkeley, and Inna Braverman, founder and CEO of Eco Wave Power.

What made Altadena and Pacific Palisades special?

When disaster strikes, how do we move forward? How do we emerge from the devastation and decide what to rebuild? How do we build our community and not forget what made it special in the first place? These are questions that LAist partnerships producer David Rodriguez has been thinking about a lot since he lost his apartment in the Eaton Fire in January. As residents navigate the recovery after the fires in Altadena and Pacific Palisades, LAist is working on an illustrated project to highlight the memories people cherish about their communities. It’ll be illustrated by David himself. We'll read through your submissions and pick a selection that will be illustrated using the digital app Procreate. You can submit your response to the survey here. And today on AirTalk, you can share your story directly with David by calling 866-893-5722.

The latest on the Trump administration’s UCLA settlement proposal

New details have emerged on the Trump administration's settlement proposal to UCLA regarding allegations of antisemitism and civil rights violations, totalling nearly $1.2-billion in fines. According to the L.A. Times, the proposal would significantly change the way the school practices admissions, gender identity, hiring, scholarships, and more. In a 28-page letter reviewed by the L.A. Times, the Trump administration outlines a proposed three-year agreement that includes calls for UCLA to make five years of payment at $200 million annually, ensure “anti-Western” students aren’t admitted into the school, and declare that transgender people’s identities are no longer recognized by the campus. This comes as the UC Board of Regents looks to hold its first public meetings since the start of the Trump administration’s allegations later this week. Joining us on AirTalk to discuss is the higher education reporter at the Los Angeles Times, Jaweed Kaleem.

SoCal History: How Mexican Repatriation impacted the region in the 1930s

It’s been nearly 100 years since the Mexican Repatriation, which saw many Mexican-Americans and Mexican immigrants deported from the United States. Beginning in 1929 and continuing for all of the 1930s, the federal government, along with local municipalities, helped facilitate the deportation of residents; the number of people who were voluntarily or involuntarily deported ranges from hundreds of thousands to potentially millions. Comparisons between the repatriation of the 1930s and the deportation actions we see going on today abound, but how similar are the two events? Joining us for this week’s SoCal history segment on Mexican Repatriation is Romeo Guzmán, assistant professor in history at Claremont Graduate University.

Stop whining! Or maybe…don’t? Why we complain and the purpose it might serve

Complaining seems practically universal; we all do it. And yet some of us do it much more than others, to the point where it may be hard to be in their company. But perhaps what they’re trying to express is something deeper. Maybe it’s an attempt to feel seen and heard, maybe it’s releasing a pressure valve of tension, or maybe they’re just trying to connect the good old-fashioned way – whining. Why do we complain, and how does it benefit or hurt us? Joining us for the conversation is Robin Kowalski, professor of psychology at Clemson University in South Carolina, who has studied complaining. If you consider yourself a complainer, why do you complain? What do you get from it? If you’re someone who has a hard time being around complainers, what wisdom do you have for how to navigate that?
