About the Show
Over 11 years and 570 episodes, John Rabe and Team Off-Ramp scoured SoCal for the people, places, and ideas whose stories needed to be told, and the show became a love-letter to Los Angeles. Now, John is sharing selections from the Off-Ramp vault to help you explore this imperfect paradise.

As we all know, this weekend is Memorial Day. This holiday might mean breaking your personal hot dog eating record at a barbecue, spending some time talking with relatives who've lost someone during a war, or catching up on your sleep. But for many LA-creatives, this weekend means ZINES!

Last week, Off-Ramp's Jesus Ambrosio took listeners to the Long Beach Public Library to chat with librarian Ziba Zehdar-Gazdecki about her inclusion of the self-published medium into circulation. So, start there for a refresher on the mini-mags.

Then head down to Los Angeles Zine Fest to see the DIY books, chat with creators, and even participate in some workshops to help you create your own!
The festival celebrates self-publishing and DIY culture, encouraging everyone to create and share their passions, opinions, and art with the community. It doesn't hurt that the festival is entirely free!
The Los Angeles Zine Fest is next Sunday at the California Market Center in Downtown, 110 E. 9th St., 90079. Enter off 9th Street and Main; the Olympic Street entrance to the building will be CLOSED on the day of the Fest.
