John Rabe on "John Rabe" with Florian Gallenberger
Florian Gallenberger, director of “John Rabe,” talks with KPCC’s John Rabe about the movie that asks, "what would you do?"
The movie “John Rabe,” opens in Los Angeles on Friday, June 4. It’s based on the true story of a German named John Rabe who saved thousands of Chinese from the Japanese “Rape of Nanking” in 1937. The story is morally and politically complicated because Rabe was a Nazi party member, and at one point, the Nazi Swastika flag became a symbol not of horror, but of safety.
The movie stars Ulrich Tukur (above) as Rabe and Steve Buscemi as an American doctor who forms an uneasy alliance with him.
“John Rabe” is directed by Florian Gallenberger, an acclaimed young German filmmaker, who talks with KPCC’s John Rabe about the movie that asks, "what would you do?" COME INSIDE TO SEE THE TRAILER.
(“John Rabe” plays at Laemmle’s Music Hall 3 & Town Center 5, and at the Regal Edwards Westpark 8.)
