About the Show

Over 11 years and 570 episodes, John Rabe and Team Off-Ramp scoured SoCal for the people, places, and ideas whose stories needed to be told, and the show became a love-letter to Los Angeles. Now, John is sharing selections from the Off-Ramp vault to help you explore this imperfect paradise.

Funding provided by:

Corporation for Public Broadcasting

Japan's Sanrio brand held its first-ever official Hello Kitty Convention timed to the iconic cartoon character’s 40th birthday. Some 25,000 people converged on MOCA's Geffen Contemporary in downtown Los Angeles over four days.

Fans got to:

- Watch Hello Kitty prance on stage with backup dancers

- Buy special edition items, such as Hello Kitty headphones made by Beats or a makeup collection from Sephora

- Take lessons on how to decorate Hello Kitty cupcakes

- Have a chance to get a tattoo in the design of a Hello Kitty cupcake.

Couldn’t get into the sold-out event? KPCC’s Josie Huang takes you there.
