The enthusiasm by Dodger fans can be seen on Twitter. New ownership brought about a projected opening day roster to cost in excess of $212 million, the most in baseball history. But you know what Biggie Smalls said: Mo Money, Mo Problems. And the Dodgers aren't dodging that mantra by any means.

The real March Madness begins in earnest tomorrow, and it's that time of the year when everyone in your office, domicile, collective or whatever fills out a bracket and pretends to be interested in men's college basketball.

Since my return from vacation, it's been horse racing and hockey. A lot of hockey, really, for which I'm unapologetic. But with the Kings on the road, I finally have time to watch our local basketball teams. And boy were they some ugly games.

People in Orlando were keyed in for Dwight Howard's return. Not only did he leave the Magic hanging in limbo for a couple of seasons wondering whether he would exercise his option, whether he really wanted to stay in Orlando, whether he could still play for Stan Van Gundy. Matinee games are rough. Kings head coach Darryl Sutter likes to call them "pajama parties." The Clippers certainly played like that against the Oklahoma City Thunder throughout most of the game.
-
What the hell have I missed the last couple of weeks while traipsing across the country on a road trip? Aside from the Kings starting to win games, nothing much has changed.

It's no longer the "Hundred-Grander". Back in 1935 when the race was first held that was a staggering amount of money. Almost 80 years later, the ten-furlong Grade I Santa Anita Handicap now boasts a purse of $750,000 for the four-year olds and up. The 2013 edition of the race features some drama. The last two winners of the Big 'Cap, Bob Baffert's Game on Dude and Bill Mott's Ron the Greek both six-year olds, will be facing off on Saturday.

Jerry Buss, longtime owner of the Lakers, has died at the age of 79 of complications from cancer.

The Clippers showed no love to the Lakers on the last NBA game before the All Star handing out a 125-101 beatdown on Valentine's Day.

The Ducks were not the first team to hand the Chicago Blackhawks their first loss in regulation, but they did the next best thing. They went to Chicago and won the game in a shootout 3-2.
