All farmers markets in L.A. must close until they can show the city they have a plan to enforce safe social distancing among patrons.

L.A. will also get a chief logistics officer, Port of Los Angeles executive director Eugene Seroka, to help secure critical materials to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

The county said two of the people whose deaths were reported yesterday, including one who was 50-60 years old, did not have any reported underlying health conditions.

Garcetti used some of his strongest language yet to urge people to stay home: "These aren't suggestions, I remind you, these are orders. We are in the midst of a pandemic."

The order from the county public health officer includes bathrooms, piers, promenades, and bike paths. Closures last until at least Apr. 19.

The announcement that all beaches would be closed came as the county reported outbreaks in at least three assisted living facilities.

The L.A. mayor also said the city is looking into converting major venues, including sports facilities like Staples Center, into mass sick bays with beds for coronavirus patients.
