A high school senior in North Andover, Mass., launched an egg at a frying pan 48 feet away and missed — but he won a $60,000 scholarship anyway.
James Vayanos, 17, won the contest sponsored by the civil engineering department of a local college with a catapult that took him weeks to build. His egg didn't get into the pan, but it hit the side — the closest of any of the more than 20 participants, according to the Eagle Tribune newspaper.
