Character actor Robert Prosky was perhaps best known for his role as the big-hearted desk sergeant Stan Jablonski on Hill Street Blues. He died Monday at the age of 77 after complications from a heart procedure.

Among many other credits, his other film and theater roles include Judge Henry Harper in Miracle on 34th Street and a desperate real estate salesman in the Broadway premiere of David Mamet's play Glengarry Glen Ross.

Prosky, a District resident for nearly 50 years, died Dec. 8 at Washington Hospital Center.
