'Blazing Saddles' Makes National Film Registry

Who could have imagined a film featuring a bunch of cowboys sitting around the campfire, eating beans and breaking wind, to be enshrined in the Library of Congress? Mel Brooks's western spoof, "Blazing Saddles," is one of 25 movies added this week to the National Film Registry. The films are considered culturally, historically or aesthetically significant. Others on the list include "Rocky," "Groundhog Day," "Sex, Lies and Videotape," "Notorious" and "Halloween."

In other film news this week, members of the British parliament have chosen their 10 favorite movies of all time. You would think they would be busy with matters of state. However, on their list: "Star Wars," "Some Like it Hot," "Reservoir Dogs," "GoodFellas," "Life of Brian," and the favorite of the august body, as recorded by a Sky Movies poll, "Casablanca."
