Tonight is Game 4 of the World Series. Here's what you need to know
Topline:
The Dodgers will play the Blue Jays on Tuesday night in Game 4 of the World Series. It's L.A.'s second home game in the series, and first pitch is at 5 p.m. Will it be as thrilling as Game 3? At 6 hours, 39 minutes, Monday night's game already is considered an instant classic.
Where do things stand? The Dodgers are up 2-1 after an epic Game 3 at home that lasted 18 innings and ended on a walk-off homer by Freddie Freeman. The Dodgers could win at home if they take the next two games. They haven't done that since sweeping the Yankees back in 1963.
Who is pitching? Shohei Ohtani is the starting pitcher tonight for the Dodgers, following a history-making appearance on offense Monday night. Ohtani became the first player in post-season history to reach base nine times. He had two doubles and two homers in his first four at-bats before being walked in his final five plate appearances (four times intentionally).
How to get there: If you're lucky enough to have tickets for the game, you can catch a free ride on Metro's Dodger Express Bus from Union Station in downtown or the multiple locations in the South Bay, including the Harbor Gateway Transit Center in Gardena. Plan ahead. The express runs every 10 minutes and starts 2 1/2 hours before game time.
Didn't get a ticket? The game will be broadcast live on Fox, Channel 11.
History in the making: The Dodgers won the World Series last year, making them the defending champions. If they clinch the championship this year, it will be the first time a team has pulled off a consecutive win since the New York Yankees won three in a row from 1998-2000.
Where to eat: If you're looking to catch a meal before or after the game, LAist has you covered. Here's our list of places to eat and drink near Dodger Stadium.
Trying to catch a game? LAist is offering tickets to Game 5 of the World Series at Dodger Stadium. A donation in any amount enters you to win a pair of Field Level tickets on Wednesday. You can enter here and go Dodgers!
Relive Game 3
As Nick Roman, a longtime Dodgers fan and host of Roman on the Radio, said on LAist's AirTalk today: "It may have been the greatest game I've ever seen."
At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.
But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.
We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Become a monthly member today to help sustain this mission.
Thank you for your generous support and belief in the value of independent news.
