Astra Lumina Lights Up The South Coast Botanic Garden

Astra Lumina returns to the South Coast Botanic Garden this year, bringing an immersive light and music show to the South Bay.

Unlike some other light shows happening around the Los Angeles area right now, Astra Lumina isn't themed specifically around the holidays. Instead, it's based around a story arc based around a concept: "What if the stars could reach for us?"

"It starts with the stars falling," said Thomas Pintal, creative director of Moment Factory. "Then after that, we see the stars through different expressions of light and music. And then at the end, it goes back in the sky."

The exhibition features nine different stations, from a "Celestial Trial" to "Cosmic Choir," plus a station for photos.

The experience was designed by the studio Moment Factory, who've also designed public art projects and tour visuals for clients like Halsey and Billie Eilish. This is the 17th illuminated night walk the company has put on.

"There's a really beautiful landscape over there that makes this experience very unique and different," Pintal said. "As an example, there's a palm tree space where we have installed balls of lights and music."

Moment Factory has also put on similar events in other parts of the world, including Montreal, the Great Smoky Mountains and Singapore.

The cost for Astra Lumina ranges from $29 to $39 for adult tickets and $25 to $27 for kids. Tickets are available on the Astra Lumina website.
