Vote by mail starts for the November general election
County registrars have begun sending ballots to voters who want to vote by mail in November.
Elections officials say as many as half the voters will cast ballots that way. KPCC’s Frank Stoltze spoke with Los Angeles County Registrar Dean Logan, who said many voters may wait until the last minute to make their decisions.
"I think we'll start to see a steady stream of return ballots in the next week or so. But the bulk of them will come in that last week before the election," Logan said.
While in the past vote-by-mail ballots were used predominantly by older voters, Logan said the current make-up is a representative sampling of the county's diverse voting population.
The percentage of L.A. County voters who opt to vote by mail is also less than neighboring counties, Logan said, while the number of California voters who chose to do so has increased each election year.
