Street vending will be legal in most of LA, but not in some areas
Street vendors can soon operate legally in most of the city of Los Angeles, but not in certain designated no-vending zones.
The L.A. City Council approved a sidewalk vending plan Wednesday after years of debate.
There was celebration among many sellers after the council's vote. But vendors who've long done business in the no-vending areas say they're disappointed. Some may need to relocate.
Under the city's new street vending ordinance, vendors will have to stay 500 feet from the Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame, Universal Studios, and the El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument near Olvera Street.
Venues like Dodger Stadium, the Hollywood Bowl, the Staples Center and the L.A. Coliseum will also be off-limits during events.
