Ski-cross and snowboard-cross World Cup canceled due to drought

An international skiing and snowboarding event in Northern California has been cancelled due to the drought. The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) posted the announcement on their website Friday.
The ski-cross and snowboard-cross World Cup was scheduled for the beginning of March at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows.
"Squaw Valley has done an amazing job preparing for this event. And while skiing and snowboarding is good now with the new snow, we respect the decision and know that it would not have been possible to organize for the World Cup event," USSA Vice President of Events Calum Clark said in the post.
Organizers say Squaw Valley has just received more than two feet of snow. But that's not enough snow to support the World Cup competition and the resort.

The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association's director said in a statement that he's disappointed that athletes won't have the opportunity to showcase their talent in front of the home crowd.
There are no plans to move the event to another location in the U.S.
