Rye Fire containment increases to 80 percent

The Rye Fire in Santa Clarita began around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and quickly spread to more than 1,000 acres.

The Rye Fire that has scorched more than 6,000 acres in the Santa Clarita Valley since breaking out on Tuesday was 80 percent contained by Saturday evening, according to Cal Fire.
Containment was up from 65 percent on Saturday morning, as more than 800 firefighters continued battling the fire, which erupted along the Rye Canyon Loop.
Firefighters plan to continue extinguishing embers along the control line, aiming to keep the fire within its current boundaries.
No evacuations orders or road closures were in place on Saturday but authorities say gusty winds and low humidity should keep residents on alert through the weekend.
The fire destroyed one building and threatened 5,460 others. One firefighter was injured in efforts to contain the blaze. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
