Rose Parade 2017: Your guide to the route, parking and checking out Pasadena's annual event

Thousands of people will descend upon Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena for the 128th Rose Parade, Pasadena's annual showcase of colorful floats and Tournament of Roses royalty. The spectacle starts a day later this year due to New Year's Day falling on a Sunday — floats roll out on Monday, Jan. 2 at 8 a.m. We've put together a guide to hopefully make the experience better.
The route
The 5.5-mile route begins at the corner of Green Street and Orange Grove Boulevard. The parade travels north on Orange Grove at about 2.5 miles per hour before turning east onto Colorado Boulevard, where the majority of the parade viewing takes place. Near the end of the route, the parade turns north onto Sierra Madre Boulevard before stopping at Villa Street.

How to get there:
If you can, take Metro. The Tournament of Roses clues you in on train information:
Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority (Metro) will operate its Red, Purple, Gold and Orange lines throughout the night of Jan. 1 and morning of Jan. 2. In addition to overnight service on those selected lines, Metro will run more trains and offer more frequent service on the Metro Gold Line to accommodate the large numbers of anticipated riders on Jan. 2. Beginning at 5 a.m. and continuing through 9 p.m., trains will run as frequently as every 7-8 minutes to and from Pasadena. Exit at the Memorial Park, Lake, Allen or Del Mar stations; all are just a short walk from the parade route.
Metro will also provide regular bus service to areas near the Rose Parade, Rose Bowl Game and Post Parade areas. Buses will originate from locations throughout the county.

Metrolink will provide special service on the San Bernardino and Antelope Valley Lines, specifically for individuals to enjoy the Rose Parade. Check www.metrolinktrains.com for schedule information or call (800) 371-5465 for more information.
Where to park
If you're going to try driving, keep in mind no-parking zones for the parade — but there will be paid lots and spaces available near the parade route.
If finding a parking space on your own seems too troublesome, reserved parking is available for cars, recreational vehicles and buses through the Sharp Seating Company, LAZ Parking and Easy Parking Service. You should know that Rose Parade parking tickets aren't included with official tickets for Rose Parade seats.

Sharp Seating Company also offers overnight RV parking in Brookside Park at the Rose Bowl Stadium before the day of the parade, but space is limited and reservations aren't accepted.

What you can and can't bring
A whole slew of safety guidelines will be implemented the day of the parade, including a list of prohibited items that's bigger than ever. Here's a list of what isn't allowed along the parade route and at the stadium:
- Weapons
- Fireworks
- Alcohol
- Drones
- Glass bottles
- Pets
Additionally, any tent, sofa or box that can be used as stools or seats are not allowed. For a full list and additional information, visit the Rose Parade website.
If you were hoping to start a bonfire to keep toasty, think again, as they are considered "illegal burns." Alternatively, you may have a small barbecue grill elevated at least 1 foot off the ground — as long as it's 25 feet from buildings and other combustibles.
As always, overnight camping for the parade is permitted the night before the parade, which this year is the night of Sunday, Jan 1.
