Plea delayed for Riverside boy accused of killing neo-Nazi father
A 10-year-old Riverside boy accused of killing his white supremacist father made his second court appearance on Friday, where the boy’s attorney was expected to enter a plea. Instead he requested more time to order a psychiatric evaluation of the child.
Juvenile Court Judge Charles Koosed granted the request and scheduled a new hearing for September, when the boy’s public defender is expected to enter a plea. The 10-year-old — whose identity is being protected because he is a juvenile — appeared in court wearing a baggy jail jumpsuit and shackles. His once long, shoulder length hair is now shaved into a buzz cut.
He’s accused of purposely shooting and killing his father, white supremacist leader Jeff Hall, three months ago. The boy told investigators he did it to stop a cycle of abuse, and because he believed his father was having an affair and would split up the family.
Through his attorney, the boy requested visitation time with his stepmother, grandmother and 9-year-old sister. He refused a visitation request from his biological mother. She’s had little contact with the boy in recent years.
The boy’s grandmother says her grandson is holding up well. She says he misses his little sister and looks forward to seeing her. The child faces up to 14 years in custody.
