Remote Area Medical ends weeklong clinic in Los Angeles
Today marked the final day of the week-long Remote Area Medical, or RAM, clinic at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.
Nearly 7,000 people visited the weeklong free clinic. Organizers estimate that the number one service provided at the clinic was dental care, followed by vision care. Patients also received free mammograms, pap smears and podiatry consultations.
Remote Area Medical also held an eight-day long clinic last August at the Forum in Inglewood. Don Manelli, the producer of the Los Angeles RAM clinic, says one thing that was different about this year's clinic was a focus on continuous care. Remote Area Medical began using electronic records this year to make sure that patients received proper follow-up care and that records weren't lost.
"When a patient checks out we'll have their records in electronic form and we'll either e-mail them or fax them to a receiving agency so that they're there ahead of the patient," said Manelli.
Manelli said the electronic records allowed organizers to correlate data, allowing them to see what kinds of treatments the patients received and who visited the clinic.
