Redistricting Panel Draws Disproportionately Male, White Applicant Pool
The applicant pool for the state's Citizens Redistricting Commission is so far not representative of the state's demographics.

In California, the important task of redrawing Congressional districts every 10 years is done by a panel of regular citizens.
But applicants to the state’s 2020 redistricting commission have been overwhelmingly white and male. That has groups representing minorities calling for action.
One year ago, Congress voted to defund public media, eliminating a critical $1.7 million from our budget every year going forward. But they couldn’t silence us, and we’re not going anywhere. LAist is now 100% community funded and that means we’re taking our future into our own hands and turning to you to keep local reporting strong.
