Pomona SWAT shooting: Suspect charged with capital murder in officer's death
The man suspected of killing a Pomona SWAT officer who was serving a search warrant Tuesday has been charged with capital murder, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
David Martinez, 36, a suspected Mongols motorcycle gang member, was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, and prosecutors planned to request that he be held without bail, according to a statement from the DA's office.
Pomona Police Officer Shaun Diamond, a 15-year law enforcement veteran, was shot in San Gabriel during what the officials have called a multi-agency operation targeting the motorcycle gang.
Diamond was pronounced dead early Wednesday. Law enforcement officers formed a procession to transport his body to the coroner's office.
Prosecutors will decide later whether to pursue the death penalty, the DA's office said.
