Officials offer reward for information leading to arrest for Boyle Heights shooting
City officials are planning to offer a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the girl or woman who shot to death a 15-year-old boy in Boyle Heights earlier this month.
The family of Luis Eduardo Perez and Los Angeles Police Department detectives hope the reward, expected to be offered through the office of District 14 Los Angeles City Councilman Jose Huizar, will provide leads in Luis' shooting death, according to a police statement.
Huizar and others had originally scheduled a news conference for 9 a.m. to publicize the reward, but the conference was cancelled this morning due to a scheduling conflict, according to Huizar' office.
A spokesman for Huizar said he expects the reward to be approved by the City Council as a matter of course. The news conference to publicize the reward may be rescheduled next week, said Huizar spokesman Rick Coca.
Luis Eduardo Perez was shot several times around 7:40 a.m. Dec. 7 in the 2100 block of East Cesar Chavez Avenue, near Soto Street, said Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County coroner's office.
The suspect was described only as a Latina, Officer Gregory Baek of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section said on the day of the slaying, which police said appeared to have been gang-related.
