OC courts to close one day a month to save money
The bustle around Orange County courthouses will screech to a halt one day a month. KPCC’s Susan Valot says the hiatus starts in August.
Courts in Orange County plan to close the third Wednesday of each month. Officials say the state budget gap forces them into this cost-cutting move. On the days the courts are closed, the county won’t pay court employees. But judges will collect pay, although they can voluntarily give up their salaries for those days. The Los Angeles Superior Court system also plans to close one day a month. That begins in L.A. in a couple of weeks.
