LAUSD Superintendent's Big Plan To Improve Schools Pins Its Hope On Principals
The education of about a half-million children in the L.A. Unified School District relies on a huge bureaucracy. Since coming on board as LAUSD's superintendent last year, Austin Beutner has been looking for ways to re-imagine that bureaucracy.
He’s now unveiled a plan to do just that. In short, his plan is to make the job of an LAUSD principal simpler.
“He’s already overworked," Beutner said in an interview, "we can’t go and say, ‘Here’s more you could do?’ You have to start by saying, ‘What can I take off your plate, how can I help?’"
But the long-awaited plan may be just as notable for what it does not include.
