LADWP offers energy efficiency/water conservation grants
Neighborhood groups around Los Angeles are getting money from the Department of Water and Power for energy efficiency and water conservation measures.
DWP has a pot of $1.4 million in federal economic stimulus money for this purpose. The utility's distributing most of it in $45,000 chunks to groups that include the Ballona Institute, Pacoima Beautiful, the Korean Culture Center and the Harbor Area YMCA.
A few larger groups – the Valley Economic Alliance, the Hollywood Beautification Team and the L.A. Conservation Corps – will get double or triple that amount. All 25 of these grants will support neighborhood-level outreach and education on water conservation and energy efficiency.
DWP's spending almost 7 million more stimulus dollars on accountability and transparency issues, efficiency retrofits for nonprofits, and incentives to attract people into large appliance rebate and trade-in programs.
