LA supes move closer to putting jail spending initiative on the ballot
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors moved one step closer Tuesday to placing an initiative on the 2020 ballot that would require the sheriff's civilian oversight commission to study whether the county could redirect the more than $2 billion budgeted for a new jail to programs designed to reduce the number of mentally ill inmates. Opponents of the new facility collected enough signatures to place it on the ballot.
