LA police union backs state bill that would boost training on dealing with mentally ill
This story aired on March 14, 2019.
The union representing LAPD officers is supporting state legislation that would increase training for police in how to deal with the mentally ill. Its push for the bill is designed in part to blunt support for a competing bill that would lower the bar for prosecuting officers over their use of force.
