LA Metro machines unable to take credit/debit cards Tuesday morning
Los Angeles's Metro system was unable to accept credit/debit cards at the TAP card machines Tuesday morning for almost six hours.
Metro tweeted about the problem during the morning commute:
At about 2 a.m., work was being done on Metro's ticket vending machine system to replace an obsolete piece of equipment and that work ended up causing an intermittent problem with TAP machines accepting credit and debit cards, Metro spokesman Paul Gonzales tells KPCC. The outage lasted from 2 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., Gonzales said.
The L.A. County Sheriff's Department, which patrols Metro, knows there was a problem with credit card/debit card purchases Tuesday morning, so if a person boarded a bus or train and indicated they tried to make a purchase but were unable to because of this problem, they were not given a citation, Gonzales said.
It's unknown what the cause of the problem was or how many passengers were affected, according to Gonzales.
