LA considers prohibiting landlords from rejecting housing assistance vouchers
Nearly half of the people getting a Section 8 voucher in L.A. will end up losing it because they can't find any landlords who will rent to them. Now, local officials want to prohibit landlords from rejecting those vouchers.
The Los Angeles City Council's Housing Committee voted Wednesday to move forward with a proposal to ban discrimination based on an applicant's "source of income," including housing vouchers.
Section 8 is a federally funded program that provides housing assistance vouchers to low-income renters.
With a severe shortage of affordable housing across California, similar bans are also being discussed at the county and state level.
