LA City Attorney Carmen Trutanich mother in hospital — Scheduling no new events in DA campaign
Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich is scheduling no new events in his campaign for district attorney after his mother was hospitalized.
Campaign spokesman Dave Jacobson said the city attorney’s mother, who is 91, entered the hospital Monday night and that it’s a “day-to-day situation.”
He said Trutanich has “shut down his calendar” except for previously scheduled events.
Jacobson said that means Trutanich is declining all media interviews and other invitations. The spokesman said he is continuing to raise political contributions for the June 5th primary in which he faces five other candidates. "Our campaign is 100% operational and is moving full steam ahead."
Trutanich already had turned down an invitation from KPCC to attend its candidates’ debate — set for next Tuesday — citing previous engagements. He’s attended one campaign forum with his opponents.
The other candidates for district attorney are Chief Deputy District Attorney Jackie Lacey, and Deputy District Attorneys John Breault, Bobby Grace Alan Jackson and Danette Myers.
Trutanich has the most money and name recognition. Analysts consider him the frontrunner in a race that will likely see a run-off election in November between the two top vote-getters.

District Attorney Steve Cooley has declined to seek another term. He supported Trutanich for city attorney, but opposes his bid to become the county’s top prosecutor because Trutanich had pledged not to campaign for another job during his first term in office.
