Queen of Jordan comes to visit Orange County, where she'll make sandwiches for the homeless
A queen is visiting Orange County on Saturday. She plans to spend her day talking global conflict prevention — and making sandwiches for the homeless.
Queen Noor is joining UC Irvine students for a Day of Service at the Center for Living Peace Orange County. She plans to talk about her work in global conflict prevention, as well as the importance of diversity and collaboration.
The queen also plans to help students make sandwiches and pack lunches for Orange County’s Second Harvest Food Bank. Despite its reputation for wealth and privilege, officials say Orange County has about a million residents who face hunger each month — half of whom are children.
Local shelters can accommodate only a tenth of the area's homeless population.
When the former Lisa Najeeb Halaby married King Hussein of Jordan in 1978, she became the first American-born queen of an Arab country.
