Donald Trump's destroyed Hollywood star is already being fixed

Despite being ripped from its home on Hollywood Boulevard in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, Donald Trump's star is already being reinstalled.

The star, which was placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007 to honor the businessman's work on "The Apprentice," was torn from the ground by a man posing as a maintenance worker. 

Deadline Hollywood posted a video of a man wearing work boots, a safety vest and a helmet as he smashed the star. He used both a sledgehammer and a pick axe to chip away the plaque. 

The man identified himself to Deadline as "Jamie Otis" and said he was planning to auction off the star and give the funds to the women who have accused Trump of sexually assaulting them.

The star was (and will once again be) located in front of the TCL Chinese Theatre at 6801 Hollywood Blvd. 

Stars on the Walk of Fame have been graffitied before. Trump's star, in particular, has been a magnet for defacement during this election season. But completely removing a star? That's a new twist. 

Leron Gubler with the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which operates the Walk of Fame, tells the Associated Press he can't be sure of the motive.

"I'm not sure if they have grievances or they were just a publicity hound trying to take advantage of the current election season. this is not the way we should act in a democracy. Democracy requires respect for the law," Gubler says.

Detective Meghan Aguilar of the LAPD says investigators were called to the scene before dawn Wednesday following reports that the presidential candidate's star was destroyed by blows from a hammer. 

Gubler says the chamber is working with the police and intends to prosecute the potential felony to the full extent of the law.  

Although the star is being repaired, it requires several days of seasoning before it is polished. During that time, it will be covered to protect it.
