Donald Trump names Mike Pence as vice presidential running mate
Donald Trump ended weeks of intense speculation over his vice presidential running mate on Friday, and he did it with a tweet.
The presumptive Republican presidential nominee said he had chosen Indiana Gov. Mike Pence to run with him in November.
Trump had at first alerted media he would formally announce his pick Friday morning and then postponed the announcement following news of a possible terror attack in Nice, France.
But Pence had a hard deadline. As the Associated Press has reported, he had until noon Friday to pull out of the gubernatorial race in Indiana in order to run with Trump on the Republican ticket.
The tweet appeared to settle the matter. Trump said he planned a press conference for 11 a.m. Saturday.
