Suspect in severe beating of Giants fan Stow at Dodger Stadium has not yet been charged
Prosecutors have still not charged the man accused in the beating of Bryan Stow at Dodgers Stadium – more than a week after his arrest.
Police Chief Charlie Beck said he believes Giovani Ramirez committed the crime, but prosecutors have told the chief they need more evidence to file charges.
Attorney Jose Romero is helping to represent Ramirez. He says his client was not at Dodger Stadium the night of the beating, but he won’t say where he was.
“We’re very guarded with our statements at this time," says Romero. "We are definitely putting the pieces of the puzzle together. But the puzzle is looking good.”
Romero told KPCC’s Larry Mantle that he’s in the process of finding witnesses who can provide Ramirez with an alibi, and who are not his friends or relatives. “Anytime you have a friend or family member, it's too easy for the prosecution to allege bias – because objectively there is bias.”
Police continue to detain 31-year-old Ramirez on an alleged parole violation.
