Update: All 101 Freeway lanes open in Calabasas after fire spread from burning car
Updated 8:52 a.m.: All lanes of the U.S. 101 through Calabasas reopened Monday morning after firefighters contained a brush fire set off by flames from a burning car, NBC4 reports.
6:39 a.m.: Firefighters have gained the upper hand on a brush fire in Calabasas that forced the closure of several lanes of U.S. 101.
Full containment was expected Monday morning on the 170-acre fire and officials reopened northbound lanes near the Las Virgenes Road exit late Sunday, NBC4 reports.
The California Highway Patrol had temporarily shut down several westbound lanes of the freeway and the off-ramp to Las Virgenes Road. The closures caused traffic to back up for miles.
The fire was sparked by a car fire on the side of the road Sunday afternoon and then spread uphill, burning near a condominium complex.
Calabasas is home to several gated communities northwest of Los Angeles.
