Beachwood Canyon entrance to Hollywood Sign trail set to re-open

The Beachwood Canyon entrance to a Griffith Park trail leading to a Hollywood Sign view is re-opening to pedestrians on Monday, Joe Salaices with the Parks Department tells KPCC.
The gate was originally closed in March.
"It was originally closed because of safety issues," Salaices said. "Prior to the new gate being put in, we had a T-gate there that was easily accessible, so we couldn't secure the park at that point. But moreso, we had vehicle traffic that was going up into that area, and illegally parking along the street, and really up in the park itself, in the canyon, and causing quite a traffic problem that became a safety issue."
A new controlled gate for vehicles and a pedestrian gate for those wishing to walk into that part of the park was installed while it was closed, Salaices said. Most vehicles won't be allowed past the gate, but entry is being allowed for those driving to the Sunset Ranch Horse Stables, as well as authorized official vehicles.

There will now be some parking in the area, but the amount is being limited by preferential parking rules, Salaices said.
The new gate opens along with the rest of the park on Monday at 5 a.m., Salaices said. People can walk in all day during park hours.
