The California Poppy Festival kicked off Saturday in Lancaster in the Antelope Valley, home to one of the most abundant displays of the vibrant state flower.

The two-day festival at Sgt. Steve Owen Memorial Park celebrates Earth Day and the poppy bloom, allowing a flood of sightseers to enjoy the iconic orange wildflowers.

The 55-acre park will host music, exhibits, food, family-friendly activities and performers. The event also includes a farmer’s market, an arts and crafts section, a healthy living pavilion and a petting zoo.

Multiple stages will showcase dance, theater and live music. Extreme sports athletes will try to wow the crowd with "big air" feats. Salsa Saturday will  feature lucha libre wrestling bouts while Sunday will feature a classic car show.

Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for children, seniors and military discounts. Parking is free.
