The Actor's Gang WTF Festival
Almost thirty years ago, Oscar-winning actor Tim Robbins and some of his buddies from UCLA started a theater in Culver City called The Actor’s Gang. The company’s thrived artistically, but during this economic recession, fiscal realities have threatened its stability.
A while back, someone suggest to Robbins that they stop productions at the theater. His response was "WTF???!!!" And so, Robbins and the Actor’s Gang launched a series of performances called the WTF Festival. Some shows are free. Others are more expensive tickets that give audience members a rare chance to see performers like Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie, comedienne Sarah Silverman and Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine in a 99-seat theater.
The Actor's Gang Creative Director Tim Robbins explained how the festival got started and what it taught him about modern theater to KPCC’s Alex Cohen.
