7 ways to spend your Hallo-weekend

Whether you're dressing up or dressing down this weekend, we've got a list of local events to keep you busy. How about a murder mystery show followed by vegan food and Dia de los Muertos art? Here's everything you need to know.

1. Art Tour with Metro

Go Metro or go home

Sponsored message

Metro's taking you on a tour of arts along the Metro Gold Line in celebration of the Day of the Dead. The tour will be guided by Dia de los Muertos expert Consuelo Flores, who has been making Dia de los Muertos altars for more than 30 years. The tour will be predominantly on foot and will make its way to Self Help Graphics' 42nd Annual Dia de los Muertos event (more on that in No. 2) for a celebration in Boyle Heights. To get in the spirit, stop by the Sierra Madre Villa Station at 3:30 p.m. Sunday and get your face painted for free!

It'll feature a procession where you can carry pictures of deceased loved ones to a community altar accompanied by giant paper mache calaveras and a blessing. There will be food, face painting, musical performances  — including Brenton Wood — and children's art workshops. Guest are encouraged to come in 1930s Pachuco- or Pachuca-style clothing.

5. SoCal VegFest

YUM

Put this one in the So L.A. category: SoCal VegFest, a day of healthy and environmentally-friendly events. You can expect yoga, plant-based food samples, a vegan cupcake contest and even a vegan athlete panel. Also: tons of cooking demos from vegan foodies.

It begins in the Sound Corridor with "Two Mallards," a five-channel sound piece where the artist and a stranger play out romantic scenarios through bird and cat calls. From there, you can expect a wooden floor sculpture and a hosiery painting, among other unusual works of art.
